Murter Island is a popular tourist destination on the Mid-Dalmatian coast, and the largest island in the Šibenik archipelago. Murter Island is separated from the mainland by a narrow channel, but also connected to it in the town of Tisno by a drawbridge, which is lifted twice a day. The island is near the motorway (which is only 20min drive away), and a short drive from the Split and Zadar airports. There are four towns on Murter Island, of which Murter and Jezera are the older, and Tisno and Betina, more recently, developed settlements. The majority of the island is covered with century old olive and fig trees, which are also part of the local heritage. Many notable destinations worth visiting are nearby-the cities of Zadar and Šibenik, with their rich history and UNESCO heritage sites, the Vrana Nature Park, and the Kornati, Krka and Paklenica National Parks.
